There are so many great granny squares and blankets being made across the world this year. Along with all the inspiration comes great tips. I had no idea what a blocking board was until two weeks ago. I started reading about it and I think Alicia describes the benefits of blocking perfectly:
...blocking absolutely transforms these babies from slightly fraught, tweaked-out, anxious little trapezoids to drapey, blissed-out grown-ups — they're all mature and perfectly square and presentable after spa-treatment.
After some Google searches I knew now was not the time to purchase a pricey blocking board, but I still wanted to block my cutie pies. I started brainstorming and remembered we had some insulation foam board left over from our dining room makeover. It is the perfect solution for me!
Over 20 years ago my grandma taught me how to crochet and I have been creating small projects since. I didn't have a single granny square to my name, until now! There are two ways people are joining the project: one granny square a day or one per week. I knew I wanted to do a little more than one a week but not one a day.
After some plotting and calculating I have a game plan. I will be making nine granny squares per month January-November and in December I will join them all together to make my first granny square blanket. Each month I am planning to have a few theme squares and the rest will be solid colors based on my mood.
