Five Minute Friday: Present

Five Minute Friday with Lisa-Jo Baker and hundreds of others. We write for five minutes. All on the same prompt. No extreme editing. No worrying about perfect grammar, font, or punctuation. Unscripted. Unedited. Real.

This weeks prompt: Present

The past few months have been a blur. I re-opened my Etsy shop. I'm selling handmade necklaces (and earrings coming next week! Hooray!) to pay my way to Allume in October. I'm thrilled to be attending and can't wait to see how God uses this experience to better my writing. I have been a part of a book club since January {February? Same diff.} with some dear friends who have become even closer than before! This group has had dreams. We all have dreams of our own but we also share a dream. Have you been to our new site, Keystone Ministry? This is really where the whirlwind comes in.

In a nut shell we want to create a place for homeschool families to find information to create real life communities like the one we have. For three years I have been co-leading an in-home co-op. We have always had 5-8 families, although I think there was a brief time we had nine. We meet in Jenny's home or mine. We have small-ish homes, 1,000 sq. ft. When you pack another six families in with your own, that small space is suddenly minuscule. This year we had 24 kids and 7 moms. I'll let that sink in for a minute. Yep. Go ahead, pick your jaw up now. Honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way.

We have a great group and it is amazing to see how God has brought us together. We were all desperate for community, for our kids and ourselves. Starting this group was for the kids but has been such a blessing for us moms. We want that for others. Following this dream God has given us has lead to our site. It is still a work in progress, but it is beautiful. We are so excited, and terrified, to finally be launching this dream. Starting Monday we will start encouraging and leading. These months and weeks of dreaming, planning and working are finally starting to take tangible form. The hours of web design and html codes are for a reason.

In all of this crazy I'm trying my hardest to be present in my life. Spending my mornings with God and Hello Mornings. Turning off the social media for a few hours to be with Brad. Stopping to read books to my squishers. It is hard to not pour every second of my time into these dreams. I'm so excited about them and where God is taking me. But every day I'm fighting to stay present, even if for a few moments.

Andi and Brad have been married since 2002. They have five squishers who keep them on their toes. She is a second generation home educator. In her spare time Andi creates and sells handmade goodies in her shop, Andi Gould Designs.

  1. It's so tempting to check out and hide in CSS codes all day, isn't it? Oh, friend! I feel you here. Every step of the way.

  3. Oh man. This past week has some excitement for me as well and I lost myself in HTML and Twitter. Now I am stumbling out, eyes blinking....no clue where I am. And I feel bad for Baby Girl :( I am SO glad you are pausing for the present!

    1. I keep reminding myself Rome was not built in one day, and this blog is no different! Give yourself some grace, Baby Girl will be fine for the few days here and there that HTML sucks you in, just keep pushing for the present!

  4. "It is hard to not pour every second of my time into these dreams. I'm so excited about them and where God is taking me. But every day I'm fighting to stay present, even if for a few moments." <-- This is me right now! Every fiber of my being wants to pour every second into these dreams I have. So glad to know I'm not alone in that! Happy Friday, Andi!

    1. Vanessa, these dreams are important and need to be a part of our present. Just not all of our present! Happy day, friend!

  5. This is so exciting!!! I so get that - that pull to just dive right into a dream - but the wisdom in knowing you must stay present in real life right now as well! Praying for this new ministry! And Wow - I have favorited several pieces in your etsy store... I didn't realize that you were selling to raise funds to go to Allume! I'm gonna have to go and buy to insure that I get to see you there now! How fun!

  6. Girl, You live in my head, heart, and soul! You totally get me! And the line that takes the cake; "his year we had 24 kids and 7 moms. I'll let that sink in for a minute. Yep. Go ahead, pick your jaw up now. Honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way." I love you my sweet friend! You are an amazing mom, wife, friend, and 'sister' in Christ to walk with. We have dream they are happening....but God & family first (and me) LOL/JK. Without them we have nothing.....

  10. I don't think it ever matters how much space you have - it's what you fill it with - children, friends, family - quiet times:) How you are present in your community is so important - that support group makes life so much richer:) Wishing you much blessing this weekend (and time for the dream, too, in the daily)

  12. Yay for Allume!!! Your jewelry is beautiful. I couldn't stay long, though, because I have a fiber addiction and it was all so tempting. Love how you are actively building community. Such a great way to be present in other lives as well.

  13. I totally understand! I have a small business dream I've been pursuing and sometimes my dream pushes its way to the #1 place in my heart and I just hate when that happens. Thankful for the Holy Spirit who tugs at our heart strings to keep us in check to create a happy balance to where we don't neglect the things that matter most: God and the people in our lives we love and cherish the most!! Excited for all your new ventures!
