Five Minute Friday: Beautiful

Five Minute Friday with Lisa-Jo Baker and hundreds of others. We write for five minutes. All on the same prompt. No extreme editing. No worrying about perfect grammar, font, or punctuation. Unscripted. Unedited. Real.

This week’s prompt: Beautiful
When I look in my tool bag I see beauty. I know these tools. I understand how they work. We have spent hours together creating. They belong to me. When I get a new tool it is foreign. I have to learn, there is always a learning curve. With the help of Youtube, tutorials, instruction manuals, other people I figure it out and learn how to use this new tool. I take the knowledge from others and I learn.

When I look in my tool bag of the tools God has given me, gifts and talents, I see beauty. [click to tweet] I know my teaching. I know my patience. I know my giving heart. And then God gives you new tools. Understanding. Writing. Compassion. Those new tools are always awkward. You don't understand how they work. You have to learn the ins and outs of their uses. They are a gift from God though. It takes time to understand them and time before you are comfortable with these new tools.

I'm still not comfortable with all the tools that have been in my tool bag for a long time. I still don't know exactly how to use them or all of their uses. Every day I use them I understand them more. Every day I gain more knowledge on how they work. I have a greater understanding of why God has given them to me. Each time I open up my front door and invite people in my tool of hospitality grows. It becomes more comfortable.

When we started remodeling our kitchen six years ago we started investing in better tools. We owned a power drill. It had been a Christmas gift from my dad. This was our first power tool we owned. When we talked to the salesman at the big box store our drill came up in the conversation. He later referred back to it asking, "What did you say you have [pause] a Black & Decker???" With disgust dripping from his words. That drill served us well and got our jobs done. We hung picture frames and curtain rods, but it was not enough to rebuild an entire kitchen.

Sometimes we look at the tools God has given others and start to look poorly at our own tool bag. You see someone's table saw and think, "My table saw isn't that nice. Mine doesn't have all those fancy features." We start to look at ourselves and think we are not enough. We think we need bigger or better tools. But God has given you those tools. Leadership. Faith. Speaking. He has given them to you for His purpose!

Let's stop looking at others and comparing ourselves. Let's look at these gifts God has given and embrace them. Embrace the beautiful gifts and talents God has given you. [click to tweet] Embrace your beautiful self and all God has made you to be for the perfect roll you play in His kingdom.

What gifts and talents has God given to you? Are there some you are uncomfortable with and need to practice using a bit more to gain confidence? Leave a comment, I would love to hear about your gifts and talents!

  1. I adore how perfect and authentically you this is! Thank you for the encouragement and the reminder that God gave me gifts that are unique to me.

  2. Beautiful (not trying to steal the word) post! I love that you used something so common a tools and brought me to consider my tools in the Lord. Thank you for the wonderful post! I love this line: 'He has given them to you for His purpose!' His purpose is perfect and I'm working with Him! So glad I cam by from Lisa-Jo's!

  3. Love your perspective on this. I'm so guilty of comparison...thanks for the reminder of what He has given ME. :) Blessings and happy weekend to you!

  4. I had never thought of compassion as a tool. I love that!

  5. Romans 12:6-8 In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.

Kindness, mercy (used in other translarions) and compassion are synonyms. I truly believe compassion is a gift from God, a tool to be used and mastered! Thanks for stopping by!
