Meet My Bench Girls: Amy

This week I am explaining what a bench girl is and who my bench girls are. Today let me introduce you to my greatest cheerleader, Amy.

Five years ago my dear friend was having a first birthday party for her daughter. She invited her little friends along with their moms to come over and celebrate. She was making a child-sized bench for her daughter. And at that same moment she was starting to build a bench for some of the moms. This was the first time I met Amy in real life.

Skip to the birthday party the following year.

Amy was pregnant with her second and I went into labor the next night with Monster!

After this birthday party the four of us continued to grow closer. And then one day Amy shared with me the possibility of homeschooling. I started praying for her and her hubster immediately. Praying for their direction and peace for their son’s education. We sat a little closer on our bench together.

Then I received this email from Amy on 23 February, 2012:
Andi...I've decided to homeschool and I'm excited, freaked out, pumped, humbled, and a teensy bit overwhelmed by the decision.

I didn't want to push her, but I wanted her to know I was right there cheering her on in whatever decision they made. But I didn't talk much to Amy about the co-op Jenny and I led because we were maxed out on space. I did however talk to Jenny about Amy. I told her that I wished we could extend our group to her. She so desperately needed a group like ours.

Then the day came when we had enough room to extend our co-op bench to her. She said yes to this group. It is not easy to walk into an established group, but she came. And she kept coming. For the past year she has been coming. Sharing this bench with us.

We share another bench, but I will get to that later.

I hope you will join me tomorrow when I introduce you to one more bench girl.

Andi and Brad have been married since 2002. They have five squishers who keep them on their toes. She is a second generation home educator. In her spare time Andi creates and sells handmade goodies in her shop, Andi Gould Designs.

  1. Ha, ha! I totally forgot about that email. That was my "Andi!!!!" message and I'm so blessed that God had you in that spot just waiting to receive my call for help.
Those words in that message? I feel the same way about our bench together and the steps we're taking. So excited for what He'll do. So excited to share this with you and the rest of the #benchgirls bunch.
    love you!
