Christmas Advent Activities: Minivan Express

Last year when I was forced into humiliation we finally bought a minivan I never imagined I would enjoy the over-sized obnoxious ugly uncool thing. I'm not saying that it brings a smile to my face or anything but I am looking forward to this activity next week.

The thought of one day having a vehicle that car seats will not enter keeps me going every day I have to drive that beast.

Every year we drive around looking at Christmas light displays. I had that on our list originally then I found this idea: The Minivan Express.

Last week Brad was helping the girls pick out the advent ornament for the night and didn't realize I had their tickets in the envelope. He said Bookworm helped him put them back in the envelope but didn't ask about them. I'm hoping with her impeccable memory, this little scrap will pop to the front of her mind when she finds the ticket under her pillow next week and she will realize that this is the special thing on our list for the night. I know next year when these magic pieces of paper find their way into the children's beds they will all remember what is waiting for them in the minivan.

I found this awesome shimmery gold paper at Joann's so I made a document on the computer to print my own tickets. Here it is just for you!

In the van my ipod Christmas playlist will be playing and these fun treats will be waiting for the children. Stickers, glow-in-the-dark bracelets, fruit snacks/ gold fish and juice boxes. And we will be sure to punch their tickets before the express leaves the station!

Can you see the shimmery goodness?!

I guess one day when the van finally leaves my driveway and is replaced with something more hip and much less kid-friendly I might shed a tear for the memories that were made in these seven seats of practicality.

Andi and Brad have been married since 2002. They have five squishers who keep them on their toes. She is a second generation home educator. In her spare time Andi creates and sells handmade goodies in her shop, Andi Gould Designs.

  1. i LOVE this idea and am totally stealing it! we go out every year to see the lights (the kids never know which night it is... it's always a late night surprise), but this makes it even more special!!!
