Tot School

This week we focused on R.

Gypsy loves taking books to the rugs in our kitchen and reading. If I had room I would add a book shelf in the kitchen. Last week Bookworm brought out her quilt off her bed and had it on the living room floor. Both girls were sitting and playing on the quilt. Gypsy was reading and Bookworm was dancing.

So this week I decided to make a Reading Rug. We each had our own books and read for over 30 minutes. I actually read a whole chapter! I don't know when the last time was that I read while the girls were awake, it may have been, ummm, NEVER!

Gypsy was not as interested as I thought she would have been but she eventually had fun.

We Rested on the Reading Rug. They both had fun with this.

We painted a R with Red paint and Rings.

A tip I picked up when teaching: add a bit of dish soap to the paint for easy clean up. I just poor it right into the paint bottle and shake it up.

Bookworm was Reading during her breathing treatments. (Usually we watch a bit of TV).

My parents got the girls each a subscription to a child's magazine. Bookworm now gets High Five once a month. Did you have Highlights when you were a kid? I did and I loved each issue. The two things that stand out to me are the hidden picture and the silly things in a different picture. Both of these are in the High Five issues. As soon as Bookworm opened her new issue she turned right to the hidden picture and started looking for everything.

Searching with her finger just like I taught her! She even turns the magazine upside down for a different view when she is having a hard time finding an object.

For a while now Bookworm likes to hand every one a string and tell them to use their "fish sticks." Now think in three-year-old terms...fish stick...fishing Rod... I knew you would get there. She handed me a string and told me it was my fish stick and without thinking I "ate" it. "No, mumma you don't eat the fish stick!" "Oh, right, I'm fishing, see?" Then I went down to get one of our fishing games. Even though this is a two player game there are four Rods so we all got one. Bookworm did very well catching the right fish and won both games!

Bookworm was Reminiscing about her gymnastics class she took a few months ago. So she and Gypsy started tossing up and catching the scarves just like she did at the end of every class. They were both doing quite well with this motor skill.

The teacher store I went to a few weeks ago is closing. :( Jenny called me on Friday to see if I knew about this, which I did not know. My mom offered to keep the girls while I went back out there to do some shopping at 50% off the entire store. (For all you local readers the store is now 70% off til the end of this week. The one right across for Lakeside next to DSW.) I got some file folder books. All I have to do is color, cut and glue and they are ready to be used. I also got some great magnetic toys similar to these. I picked up a few other things and had to pass on a lot because of the purse stings. When Jenny and I were at the store we overheard one of the cashiers telling customer about being able to return items if she had a receipt. Then Jenny asked about if they were closing and the cashier wouldn't give her a direct answer. We are hoping they are just going under new management because really where are all the teachers going to shop around here? Dollar Tree and Target's Dollar Spot only offer so much.

Our area was blessed with another snow dumping. After B finished shoveling the girls went out to play in the snow with him. You will notice it is dark, yeah it was 7:30 at night a special treat!

They both had fun on their first sled Ride.

Gypsy really enjoyed laying down while Riding around in the snow.

Bookworm had fun eating a "snow apple" (her own idea!).

  3. These activities look like a ton of fun! What did you use to cover their clothes while painting?
