Fairies

Since I was little I have been fascinated by fairies. I remember having some cologne and body powder that had fairies on the bottles (I think it may have been Bonne Bell) and I loved Tinker Bell from Peter Pan and again when I was older in Hook.

A few years ago I read an article in Better Homes and Gardens about Fairy Gardens. Since then I have wanted a Fairy Garden myself. I have a place picked out in my back garden (right in front of our big tree). And next years garden project is going to focus mostly on this garden. I have dreamed of placing little furniture in their garden, creating paths with small stones and sea shells and maybe even a little mailbox. And now that I have my little gardener, Little Bo Peep, to help decide where to place the furniture and flowers it will be even more fun.

One thing I have wanted to do is to put a door at the base of the tree-trunk for the fairies to use to go into their tree-home. Well the other day Brad and I were listening to NPR (this is a link to the story) and there was a story about Fairy Doors in Ann Arbor (if you click on the #7 door you can see pictures of the Fairy Doors around Ann Arbor). This has further inspired me to create my Fairy Garden next year.

This is one of my favorite pictures on the web site. A woman made these using a #0000 hook (very tiny)!

  1. Oh Andi! How delightful! I love the idea of your faerie garden! And with your little sweetie to see it and grow with it... what a wonderfully magical idea! Thanks for showing those links... I enjoyed looking thru the stories and photos of the doors throughout Ann Arbor! If I ever have a litte boutique, I'd certainly hope a faerie choses to come reside with me there! :)
